SHAE Movement African Arts was founded June 2009 by Niche' Vereen-Faulkner and LeShea Stukes. Each having studied African dance, they feel as though they were destined to meet each other. At a conference in Florida, Niche' met LeShae's mentor and he encouraged her to give LeShea a call. After meeting each other, the two found that they shared more than love for dance and similar backgrounds, but also shared a common name, SHAE. As it goes, one afternoon before LeShea's regular Cardio & Culture class, the two sat in the parking lot brainstorming names and goals for the future organization and from there SHAE Movement African Arts was born. Since then, the two have expanded, adding a second weekly class, have taught summer camp programs, are now Certified Fitness Instructors, and continue to promote the organization as a whole.
The "SHAE's," as they are so often called, hope for SHAE Movement African Arts to become an organization which prides itself in promoting and educating others about African culture but also provides an environment where the community can learn and be healthy all at the same time. It is our hope that others become excited as well as develop love and respect for African culture just as we have.
